About Dr. Adut

As a licensed clinical psychologist, it’s a pleasure and a privilege for me to learn about people’s unique lives, strengths, and challenges. My goal is to thoughtfully and collaboratively leverage science and experimentation to help you become an expert in yourself: what works for you, what doesn’t, and why. That’s the heart of “collaborative empiricism,” which is central to effective cognitive-behavioral therapy.

Collaborative empiricism is a through-line of my work. I am fellowship-trained in behavioral sleep medicine, where I specialized in cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), a gold-standard treatment that applies scientific understanding of sleep, emotion, and cognition to treat insomnia. I’ve also worked in a variety of other health contexts, helping patients in primary care, hospitals, and physical medicine and rehabilitation settings reduce pain, improve sleep, and work through anxiety and depression.

I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Miami University, where my research was focused on thinking processes in obsessive-compulsive disorder and anxiety, as well as on emerging mental health technologies. From there, I completed my doctoral internship at the University of Rochester School of Medicine, and then my post-doctoral fellowship in Sleep and Circadian Health at Stanford University. I became Board certified in Behavioral Sleep Medicine in 2025. Because of my background, I especially enjoy working with clients experiencing sleep problems, anxiety, and chronic health conditions.

When I am not working, I like creative writing, playing sports, and hanging out with my dog, who is the best sleeper I know.

Milo C. Adut, PhD (Pretty handsome Dog). If he could talk, I think he’d make a better sleep psychologist than just about anyone. Tell us your secrets, Milo!
